Hi!

Currently i have the kixtart 2001 exe files on the netlogon share directly. Is this the way to do it?

If i run the script by copying all files in netlogon to local machine i gain 1 second in loginspeed. And that isnt much i think, but one second is one second.

If i where to have the files localy on the machines, is there any script to check;
1) That the local files are there and up to date, and if not update/copy them

I do not want the users to be able to cancel the script execution by for example renaming some other .exe file to kix32.exe and saving it over the "real" kix32.exe file.

In the end what i want is the optimal execution time to do the tasks that i want to achive during login (mapping of shares, remapping of old printers to new ones, setting the system time, applying som registry fixes and setting IE to use a IEAK script).

Howard posted his example where he uses a CRC to check.
If you don't have bandwidth challenged users then I suggest you concentrate on optimizing the script rather than distributing the binaries. There is a lot more work involved in updating KiX if you copy it to all local machines. You would also need to be concerned about local create/write permissions.

Here is the link to my batch file: http://www.kixtart.org/board/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=2;t=003344#000001

I would suggest using WriteLog() to provide a timestamped log of script activity. You can then analyze which parts of the script are consuming time and concentrate on them.

Gathering network based account info and mapping shares will add about 600-700KB of network traffic during the logon process.

For bandwidth challenge users the local implementation of binaries and code does make a large improvement.

As you will see I use %windir% on Win9x and %temp% on NT class computers to avoid permissions issues.

And writing to %WINDIR% creates it's own update hassle as administrative rights are required to update the files.

I would think not on Wintendos.
