[Moderator (Sealeopard): Moved thread from 'Scripts' to 'General' forum due to lack of script in body]

I know I can change it from roaming to local with the GUI in windows, but is there any way of changing it in a batch?

Doing it with Kixtart or some other tool is perfectly acceptable.

Does anyone know if it can be done?

yes, it can be done.
not quite sure how to go with it...

and it obviously is admin-script...

As it is juts a regisry key in HKLM, one can use KiXtart for it, however, it'll require administrative privileges.

Well - I thought as much, but I am still very uncertain about the procedure. [Frown]

Changing the value of one or more key is easy. Knowing which one to change is the hard bit.

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\

... seems to contain a list of active profiles, both roaming and local, but I have no clue as to which one I need to change the "State" key of...

Here is the confusing bit: I have 4 users on my machine, two profiles, and three entries in the profile-list. How do I resolve my own ID there?

If my username is in the string "ProfileImagePath" - can I safely rely on it being my entry?

[Confused]

Time to take a look at the KiXtart Manual, it has a SIDTONAME() function.

Secondly, read the FAQ Forum, namely Registry Tools . Use these tools to monitor the registry keys/values that change when you manually set a profile to local/roaming.

Most likely, you will need to delete the CentralProfile value, however, this will prohibit you from turning a local profile back to roaming. An existing profile turns local if you add a value UserPreference=0 and UserPreference=1 turns it back into roaming.
