sealepord - yeah that's exactly what I've done for departments. I created a share, each department has a folder inside that share.. and each Dept. folder has perms for just those people, and special cases. works great, but migrating everyone else would be a pain.. so im taking that step by step (have been for a year now), but I cant force all that change instantly because of a bug in kix or windows.. I do agree with what you're saying, though.

The idea with my script is that when it's done, my bosses (who dont necessarily have network administration experience) will be able to create accounts for new users and just by picking which groups to make the user a Member Of, they can have a fully functioning logon on a PC where said user could immediately get to work.. if I hard code in things to look for the user's id for a home folder, i am potentially causing confusion when I'm trying to un-obfuscate [Smile]

Regardless, thank you all for your continued effort- i'm still trying different things, digging around support.microsoft.com for KB articles.. starting to pull out my hair [Smile]

it's been a long day. i need a beer.

Well, it's starting to look more and more like a kixtart bug- This problem is affecting more users than previously thought (because they ignored the error, and out of old habit aren't using H:) but as I see more of them, with differing logon names and home folder paths - it always errors out the same, as a 67 when trying to map H: .. but if I do a commandline net use or the same through Windows it works.

I've confirmed that all the users have proper network settings (that work fine for everyone else) and all run Windows 98. kixtart.log says nothing at all about these event(s) either..

What routes do we have to resolve this? I must admit, I'm a unix geek so my only experience is with open source, where I can just debug and patch myself.. is there a way to submit bug reports to the author(s) ?

Has anyone had problems with Kix and share mapping that a known KB article exists for @MS.com ? I looked and didn't find much that seemed like it fit

I re-wrote the script, that didnt change anything. is there a kix with debug symbols available? [Smile]

do you run the correct verison of the kiXtart RPC server on all DCs?

Can they map other shares without problems?

Can they map the share when hardcoding it, and not using @HOMESHR?

Can they map when using the IP address and not the name?

Are the HOSTS files up-to-date, if used?
