Went to - http://www.netal.com/download.htm

And downloaded the "System Scripting Runtime 1.4"

Within this, archive it shows that you can do a PING or other Network options on line, i.e. no 'SHELL' should be necessary when running from a script.

This does a whole host of things from the DLL that are network-related.

A fair portion of the funionality is built into KiX, but this loooks good.

Very cool stuff!

hmm...
if you want a ping com:
http://www.dynu.com/dynuping.asp

usage is simple as sleeping:
quote:

Ping(Host - String, [Count - Integer], [Size - Integer], [Timeout - Integer])

Ping host or IP Address and display the results.

Host - Hostname or IP Address as a string.
Count - Number of echo requests as an integer. Default is 1.
Size - Packet size in bytes as an integer. Default is 32 bytes.
Timeout - Timeout in milliseconds as an integer. Default is 1000.

oPing.Ping("www.dynu.com", 2, 32, 1000)

Hmmm...

If you need to do a PING, then yes that would work..

Let's see what else SScrRun.dll can do.

IPNetwork Object
> DNSLookup
> DNSLookupEx
> Ping
> SendSyslogMessage

LMNetwork Object
> SendNetMessage
> NBTNetwork
> QueryNodeStatus

SNMPManager Object
> Get
> GetNext
> Set
> GenerateTrap

Variables Collection Object
> Add
> Remove
> RemoveAll

Variable Object
> PostIPCEvent

You get the idea. [Smile]

It's something along this line, can't test as I have not yet easy access to a Windows XP comuter.

code:
$svc = getObject('winmgmts:root\cimv2')
$objEnum = $svc.execQuery("select * from win32_pingStatus where (address =
'remotecomputer' or address = 'remotecomputer2') and statusCode = 0", "WQL", 32)

for each $obj in $objEnum
? 'Computer '+ $obj.address + ' replied to ping'
next
