Hello,
I'm using @PRIV in my logon script, but the result of this is - in my opinion - not ok!
It doesn't matter which local permissions are set (OS = XP, 9x, or NT), the result is all the time "USER".

Do any of you have an idea ??

Thanks,
Michael

I had problems with this till someone told me that KIX caches the groups you are contained in.
If you run from a dos prompt kix32.exe /f, this will refresh the tokens in the registry.

Then run your login script and see if @priv works.

M,

did the behavior change in opposite to previous versions ? (I assume that this could be the case as you stated a version in your title)

IIRC there was one change to @priv regarding SYSTEM User (returns admin on system account) in one of the last releases but can't find that documented at the moment [Confused]

No more clues, sorry ...

{edit : as Will stated correctly earlier [Frown] I really should start to read the whole reply [Embarrassed] }

I also tried kix32.exe /f; with the same "bad" result. Any other idea ???

PS.: In older kix-versions (eg. 3.63)I never used @priv!

So then ... there are as far as I know only 3 possibilities :

Guest, User and Admin

Does any of the tested accounts belong to at least the local administrator group ?

the older version only verifies domain priv, has this changed on the newer version.

I am local admin on all the PCs at my site, but I'm not Domain Admin... @priv for me is always USER

tested here (on NT Workstation) and it returned User for my account which is definetly not the case [Eek!] [Eek!] [Eek!]

(On my NoteBook ((W2K)) it returns Admin as expected)

Rad,

older version ?

Wait lemme test with RC2 ... It has not changed !

I am only local admin and not domain admin (Thank God for that) here in our admin domain [Big Grin]

Seems to be that the domain context is evaluated (still in 4.21 RC2)

Questions: What is better? Should it be changed? Can we have that stated in the manual? How can we manage to gain peace on earth ? [Roll Eyes]

IIRC, the @PRIV evaluates the domain rights first. Thus a domain user that is a local administrator should be @PRIV='USER'. For more granularity you can always evaluate the INGROUP(@WKSTA+'\Administrators')

Sure it does ... But still this behavior of @priv was not what I'd have expected

Any thoughts on possible changes / or documentation needs ?

discussed zillion times.
think it's obvious what it returns...

anyway, I as one am really wanting a change in this.
as per all kixtart macro'es seem to be designed with logonscript in mind.

thus, there is more importance knowing if normal person is a local admin than if he is domain admin.

what comes to domain admin accounts, those not normally even have logonscripts.

so, sure...
at least documentation needs to be clearer here and better would be to change the behavior...

I fully agree with you, but I think it is not our decision to change it ??

Oh well,

the decision is up to Ruud but we surely can influence the way KiX goes ...

As said before, someone of the mods here may move this to suggestions or you can repost this as a request there (maybe a link to this topic)
