The drawback is that it requires the VB6 SP3 Runtime library. I believe COMCTL32.DLL is present by default.

Just to add some more information here. There is nothing "COMable" about COMCTL32.DLL. It's just a collection of controls that can be used (called) from Win32 apps (they're created and manipulated through API's).

The Date Picker thingy is an ActiveX control which means that while it is COMable - it still needs an ActiveX control container to host it (like a VB Form or an Internet Explorer Document). An ActiveX control cannot exist by itself - unless it was designed to do so (and ActiveX controls normally aren't designed to do so).

Dont know exactly where I'm heading with this but would love to discuss further.
