Based on the membership growth of this board, I think we can conclude that the use of KiXtart is extremely widespread and growing. I also have noticed what appears to be a steady decline in new posts. (MCA, do the board stats confirm this trend?)
Since the more people are using the product and we get the occasional question about UDF use, I have concluded that we regulars have almost worked ourselves out of the daily KiXtart support job. The FAQ section and UDF library probably have been more successful than anyone would have thought. And combined with the extensive posts to the message sections, this board is quite the reference library. (MCA, are there any page stats that could provide info regarding UDF, FAQ, and message read hits vs. new posts?)

Dear,
Howard, the amount of members is still growing. In our opinion the amount of old questions is becoming in a steady decline, which has to deal with the great amount of interesting topics on the FAQ forum and the well documented UDFs on UDFs forums.
The board statistics doesn't confirm your trend. Only in some months an enormous amount of new topics were entering. Also a new trend is that some topics gets an enormous amount of reactions. Also we think that everybody likes that it isn't necessary always to answer the same (beginner) questions. Now the goeroes can use their time to new capabilities of kixtart or the board (f.e. kixforms & bbchecker).
It is really a pity, that it isn't possible to see read hits. We have put a question about it on the "Infopop" board.
Les, we shouldn't forget that a great amount of people are enjoying there holidays. Previous year we got also such quiet period. Currently each month there are above 400 new entries per month. At the beginning we new about 1.5 years for 2500 new entries. This year we need less than a half year for it. Indeed we see also a higher level of topic contents. The newbies will point to the FAQ and UDFs first, which prevents answering the same question again and again and the possible mistypings can be fixed with f.e. kixstrip and all kind of other tools.
greetings.

Dear Jack,
Indeed at the same time the goeroes are working mostly at the same problem. The bene- fits for the topic starters: he can choose the best solution for his environment.
The impact of the current moderators makes this board more valuable. They give newbie tips about entering their requests and reformat subject and contents in a more readable format. A better subject description influences also the speed and the way a request will be solved. More readable by using
and
makes script for comment easier to read.
The current discussion deals also about reducing 'unwanted' work for the board. greetings.

Dear,
The way you can interpretate words can be very different. Mostly it is also based on the words in your own language. A nice example is the word stamp: a stamp for a letter or a trading stamp from the shop.
A lot of people in our country loves so much trading stamps, that when we are talking about stamps we are meaning trading stamps. We are always using the word postage stamps for letters.
Same thing we discover with the France language: "timbre" and "timbre-poste".
Also you will find differences between Belgium and the Neterlands in using words. Netherland is using more words from other languages instead of creating an own one. Belgium is very creative in it. greetings.
btw: the dictionary link is a very good one. mostly we are looking in the Oxford or Webster dictionaries. [ 30 July 2002, 04:52: Message edited by: MCA ]

Dear Howard,
We get following answer back from Infopop about the availibility of read hits:
There are no topic view count features available in UBB.classic. That feature is available in all of our other message board products, how- ever (UBB.threads, UBB.x, and OpenTopic). We cannot include that fea- ture in UBB.classic simply because the architecture of the applica- tion will not support it (that is a fancy way of saying that because UBB.classic is a flat-file system, any boards that are of even mode- rate size would suffer in terms of performance if we added this fea- ture).
Ted O'Neill CEO, Infopop Corporation
greetings.
