Yeah - very funny!

Sanctioned flights actually have FAA clearance, and they reroute commercial traffic out of our flight area, and issue NTOAMs to private pilots. We don't look kindly on yahoos that fly without clearance..

This is the club that I fly with.
Here's a picture of the rocket that I lost, during boost:

This is my modified Black Brant just coming off of pad 2:

Fellow flyer Gene don't need no stinkin switches to contol the avionics on his rocket - just twist the battery wires together.. Here he is before the flight:

and after the flight ended:

Notice the fin marks at 9:00 and 1:00! It wound up more than 7' deep after coming in from 8000' without a 'chute. (yes, it's still there, 7+ feet deep!)

Uhhh....(looking at picture) maybe the reason you lost your other rocket is there is more than one pad 2? As in 2,2,3? LOL.

It's a funny angle plus the effect of the telephoto lens.. I didn't think I needed to identify the pad as "RED-2" to you guys.. The blue pads are actually larger and about 20-30' behind the red pads.. \:\)

Brad, sometimes, we only need to count to ONE - for example: \:D

The rocket in the lower photo belonged to a member of our club, was nearly 21' tall, and was the subject of a film crew from Germany.

What does it say about me that I bypass the rocket entirely and the first thing that pops into my head is "Wow, what a cool gantry"?

Easy, actually.

Mine had a warble-tone alarm in the parachute - the batteries last about an hour. Given the distance it drifted, it didn't help me as it took more than an hour to hike through the fields, across the stream, and across the farm to the approximate landing area. Some users use small smoke cannisters for tracking, and others even use radio transmitters and directional receivers to aid in recovery.

Since that loss, a company has introduced a reasonably priced telemetry module that can be placed in the avionics bay. It has a GPS receiver and a telemetry transmitter, which sends Longitude/Lattitude, Altitude, and speed info to the reciever. It will definitely be part of any future launch.
