freeware apps list

list of freeware/opensource apps, i'll eventually make/get a GUI to install these from.
Assume a stupid home user with a new PC... With Windows and not much else
I'm looking to avoid redundant apps, ie no firefox... and only apps that Joe Average might need/use/want.

well, I would loose the windows defender, and adobe reader.
can't see no reason for calculator plus either.
haven't tried avg antivirus, but another alternative could be avast!
what is paint.Net?
mspaint written for .Net? then it can go too.

paint.net is a photshop type app... much easier to use than GIMP and just as powerful (or close enough). And much easier to manage without the GTK stuff
Adobe reader is better than Foxit, as foxit doesn't manage forms. If you pull out most of the acrobet plugins, acrobat is very snappy.
Calculator plus does lots of unit conversions... necessary in the US as it has been 30 years and we still aren't metric.
I use CDBurnerXP for freeware burning, it is much like Nero... however, I do like PortableDeepBurner.

Some of the apps in hitman pro are NOT FREE for commercial use.
For personal use it is great
