Jooel, Spent some time and cobbled together a dependency checker for BBChecker. Check your e-mail. Thanks, Kent [ 29. October 2002, 23:36: Message edited by: kdyer ] |

yes? what it says? also, could you add the word beta in the title. you dudes (you, patrick ...) probably have been running checker. has it been crashing? I came back home and it had crashed once again. the, went to my event log to see any info and found it full of 1311. wasn't that supposed to be removed at some point? |
and to save having to dig for the URL, the beta can be found here: http://www.gwspikval.com/jooel/scripts/bbChecker/ |

Title - Changed. > what it says? It checks the following:
Thanks, Kent |
it passed alright (uploaded also) only need I can see for it is to have virus messing up with the files. kixforms is already checked by install... parser and slider can't be checked as they are supposed to be version independent like the have since 1.4.0 slider is fully configurable by the user and parser needs to be able to change every time board software gets upgraded... so, the idea is not bad but how to go with... {edit} also, lacking the IE5 (microsoft.xmlhttp-object) check. once again. for situations ppl saying something does not work, it could be pointed to them for basic checks and as such, it's better than good. and boys, removed the minimize on topic open in beta2 as 2.1.1 has no support for doubleclick in buttons. and it seems to work correctly. any comments? |
kent, am I missing your point here. why you suggested it as incorporated? and in which way, a runtime check or separate deptool in package? also, am I only one who's checker has crashed? I see multiple checkers running and no-one has reported errors... {edit} ok, currently only patrick, hoby and I are running it. I'll keep on waiting... [ 30. Mine also crashed 6 hours after starting. Sorry I don't remember the error (middle of the work day). |
so, it is there... thanks. could you also say what options you had enabled at the time. slider can't be the source for the problem but don't show my post theoretically could be... |
Beep & Slider are/were checked. |
Lonkero, are you planning on making this program generic such that we could point it at different BBs? |
it already is. the only things needed to make it officially is to add the required settings stuff in to misc. also, having parser or it's "signature" files for different versions of UBB or even other software is the most demanding task. |
You d'man |
that error is starting to look more and more like short network outage. I was thinking, once I get it confirmed by current debug script that my assumption is correct, I could make in to the update routine a check for malformed info, and popup a messagebox with timeout of 10 secs asking if you want to quit the script or let it run... then if let run, do a exit to avoid the crash and on next update do the... or then just avoid the crash and let the user figure out the possible network outage if such exist... |
Jooel, DL'd the 1.5 beta... been running fine for 10 minutes. I see you got some of the punch list items done. No more minimize from history and the list puts most recent as topmost. I tried following the other thread, you the 5 pages... but when you get going on very little sleep your writing gets cryptic. So is there any change to the slider to make it more stable? I mean, should I bother testing? |
I would like to help get to the bottom of this slider thingy too. But im still unclear as to exactly whats the problem ... can't remember ever having a serious problem with the slider ... les/jooel, can someone enlighten ? |
my writing gets cryptic? I thought it was always that way anyway, I'm running slider and it seems stable. but, the reason why I took slider and parser out of the checker code was to make it little bit simpler for ppl to participate in the coding. and leave me with only the main encrypter bbchecker.kix shawn, currently slider has two problems: -occassionally hangs the main checker window -occassionally also pulls the main window ontop as the active window as this is not static dunno what is the thing behind it. also, as it's not always, I don't mind these. previously had bigger problems with slider (in 1.4) but it turned out that all along the way I had forgotten the dimming of $ les, are you having any real errors? |
Shawn, Took a while to find it but here it is. http://www.kixtart.org/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=14;t=000131#000017 If you start reading the thread at the 17th post, that's where I report the error. Maybe Jooel can better explain. |
Is that this unexpected expression error - something about $caption ? Or this thingy about displaying "20" on the console ? |
checked it: posted 26. October 2002 04:00 and didn't find any post even noting towards that specific error. just remember that it disappeared at some point. |
It was just as I said. I typed the error exactly as it showed. "Script error: Error in expression.!" in a GUI box and the console spawned with "20" on the console. |
to shawns question... the reason why we are still in the beta phase are those $btl.caption errors and which were actually multiple bugs and just looking alike. got approx 5 fixes on that and now there is only one which occurs occassionally maybe even day after checker is started. and as such, I quess it just is that board is not available and parser can't return full info and that crashes it. once I get this "working" I could check on the parser again and make it shorter with some split joins and more reliable with error checks and all. the current infrastructure it uses is from the days of bbchecker 1.5 (don't mix with current bbcheckerII) when all was done in ie window and I were a 3.62 user by blood. |
So, your saying that there are some issues, but in terms of the Slider - everything's good ? The Slider works flawless ? |
found new feature. this most likely does not occur on beta2 but my current build shows my posts twice... eh. {edit} shawn, no errors with slider currently found. [ 30. October 2002, 02:36: Message edited by: Lonkero ] |

OK, turned the slider back on... time will tell... |
don't wonder if the shaken one is not replying immediately as he rests his feet a moment at the side of the bed... |
DOH! Same error, only now the console doesn't show. Funny thing... got the beep for the typlib post, clicked it, then got another beep for the same post and then error. |
les, once you are awake more than I, I ask you to run a test for me. change the sliders: $c = $p.Timer(20) and $$c.Interval=20 to: $c = $p.Timer(40) and $$c.Interval=40 and see if it changes anything. |
The new values are in and BBChecker restarted. |
also, if it still gives you sh*t, try the dependency checker found in bbdep.zip |

Still going strong. Kent's BBDEP reports "All Files and versions appear to be up-to-date". |

Well.. Stop the presses.. Here is what I saw from it Kent |

Jooel, Bbchecker beta 2 now running for +/- 15 hrs.... Started it at 2002-10-29 18:45 (Standard time +0100 or BB time) |

RFAF - Request For Additional Feature Is it possible to add a tool tip containing the URL on the items in the listview? I think I found the new feature of multiple items too... Doesn't happen all the time though |
kent... what is their board software name and version? patrick, mine had crashed after 10 ours but my error hook had catched it. so, now running new version and will see if it works as expected... |
Jooel, We see at the bottom: Powered by Infopop Corporation UBB.classicTM 6.3.0.1 http://www.vhforums.com/vhlforum/ultimatebb.php Thanks, Kent |

yep yep. totally different call. I got hanger. came back to wksta and checker was just "dead". I was hoping of releasing the close to ready one soon but, have to think now... |
went to see the board and huh... it is almost same version but the layout of the html data is totally different. we come to point that every forum should have their own signature and that is pretty heavy... |
Thanks for answering the questions for the use of this script for vhforums.com. A couple of questions, do you have any idea of how this will affect bandwidth with the query of the server every 20 seconds by pontetially hundreds or thousands of users? I am not sure who created this script but before digging any further into the vhforums angle I would like to know that its okay with them. This is a very cool script (app) and I think it would be an ideal thing to offer users of that site :-) |
well, we can hardcode 300 second as minimum refresh time. anyway, I think there is to be update on the engine. what bigger the board grows, that more using todays active topics as base change.log looks good. what comes to bandwidth. if the server is on 10M net, it would be better not to give this to it's users. then only 150 users running on 20sec refresh would eat up 90-95% of the bandwidth. |
pat, that should not be too easy that tooltip. in listview can't change by line the tooltip? currently checker running nicely. it will hang on net outage until it gets next update... maybe should do something for that. anyway, it's not crashing anymore I'll do something for that clear, it still needs to have the start field to see how long it has run |
Jooel, it crashed again. The only thing that was referenced was "error in expression !". As for the other thread I'm with Les. |
hoby, another thread? anyway, as you are having problems and I'm not... released RC-1 anyway, who wants to make his checker stable should upgrade to this release. sources directory has been updated with current files. |
Jooel, I don't know how the listview works (waiting till the official kixforms docu is there). About the tooltip; can it be done or is it too difficult??? |
after rethinking, no can do. I can know on which topic you are and change the tooltip by that, but how I can make the tooltip to refresh? |
Script error occurred with cmd box saying "20" after running the RC1 for 2 hrs... |
with which settings? also, do you have your own slider or the one from package? |
hmmm 20 eh ... wonder if thats a "20" or a "2" "0" combo ? jooel, you got a double set of unsilenced function calls in your script somewhere ? 20 also sounds like maybe one of Location properties, ie: Left or Top ... cant think what else it might be ... |
And again with your latest post!!! Wxp Pro NL Latest KixForms Checker RC1 own slider: code:Function slide($sc,$scv) |
increase the interval from 20 to 30 and try again. |
patrick, any update? shawn, I dunno if you are running checker, but with last build (rc-1) the slider has a habit of raising the checker window ontop. any reason? |
Jooel, running with slider interval 30 now for 30 mins. Not many posts though so not a representative scenario?!? BTW left the checker running (beta2) at work, will see tomorrow if that one crashed (2MB to www)... |
Jooel, fyi, I left bbc running all night last night ... no probs. |
my rc-1 has been running for 4.000 hours now. my quess is that there is leak in the forms... or in kix... when the slider comes with 20 and it does not have time to execute the pending ontimer-events it crashes at some point. could be tested though. but, changing it to greates has solved the problem since. I just wonder, should also during net outage the timer be flushed? would it clear the pending events raised by it? |
ok, patrick, get the checker code from the sources dir and tell does that please you? it still requires the focus change but does it look weird or ok? |
Lonkero, Noticed a couple things. Just downloaded and installed your bbchecker. Then I copied the newer script from the SOURCE folder on your site. http://www.gwspikval.com/jooel/scripts/bbChecker/BBChecker_1.5_RC1.exe 1. The install package did not correctly install the KIXFORMS.DLL file. I had version build 36 already installed, your installer overwrote it with the older version build 35 2. This is minor and kind of expected behavior, but when you don't select a buddy on the left, but do say SHOW PROFILE it goes to KiXtart.org for an unknown user. Maybe check and alert the user that he/she did not select a buddy. 3. Maybe add the KIXFORMS build 36 to your source installer and check why the code installed and overwrote a newer version. |
first, don't have build 36, so don't use it. the buddy thing is expected. I'll make a fix later with 1.5 upgrade. why the install does overwrite, I'll have to see. |
Okay, your right. Got that build from Shawn to overcome an issue I was having with checkbox behavior. Shawn did not publicly release that one yet. I like the popup in the top left... very Currently using 2,774K of memory for WKIX32.EXE running the script with /i been running about 20 minutes so far and only posts from you and me kicking it off. I sent you a message as well on other subject. |
ok, the installer does this: code:so, the < should have been >$id=readvalue("HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Kixtart.Static\CLSID","") sorry dudes. |
first, if you send messages, at night time (board time) it's better to use PM as my e-mail is behind vpn and simple open will last 5 mins. secondly, why you run it manually? and with i switch? just click the icon in startmenu. |
Did not see it created a menu at first. I did send it as a KiXtart.org PM |
Jooel, might want to check against Kixtart.Form instead of Kixtart.Static ... Kixtart.Static was phased out in TNG |
dunno, after re-installing uninstalling... still I see: kixtart.button kixtart.button.1 kixtart.edit kixtart.edit.1 kixtart.form kixtart.form.1 kixtart.frame kixtart.frame.1 kixtart.listbox kixtart.listbox.1 kixtart.listview kixtart.listview.1 kixtart.menu kixtart.menu.1 kixtart.screen kixtart.screen.1 kixtart.static kixtart.static.1 |
Delete all that crap and re-install. |
It crashed with "error in expression" after about 10 minutes of running when I had quit and relaunched via the icon in the start menu. The last check said 30 in DOS box. When I clicked okay the messagebox and DOS box went away and program quit. |
shawn? it is now tracked to slider. as changing the interval from 20 to 30 also changed the crash message from 20 to 30 |
Wouldn't the 20 vs 30 setting be related to $looptime as opposed to the slider ? |
so, doc, what is your looping time setting in misc? and once you get to the checking, how slow is your processor... I got a feeling about this. also patrick and les could tell their wksta power... [ 31. October 2002, 07:42: Message edited by: Lonkero ] |

eh, what about that tooltip? working??? it's as good as I got it... |
Liking the tooltip, what to change to view the text + URL (only after cgi?) ?? Why??? well to check the if the listview contains multiple posts.... (the feature discovered before) [ 31. October 2002, 08:18: Message edited by: MightyR1 ] |
well, that would need a re-design of parser and checker main... no will do that much for it anyway, haven't seen that multipost since. have to wait for a while to see when the board traffic increases. |
Redesign not needed, was only thinking of a way to see if the multiple posts were identical or not.... |
after thinking again, also with complexing the focuseditem line could be able to do that. anyway, don't know if everyone wants that. getting actually little tired with this update (like in the times of 1.1) don't dare to make any updates anymore as it's already in this rc-phase... so, should get this out and then top priority is adding codeparser button between misc and buddies... |
the buggies posted by doc have been corrected. the corrected package (RC-2) has been uploaded to download area. bbdep.zip updated by rc-2 "signatures" |
actually, now when playing with my new "messenger" was thinking... I have %SystemRoot%\System32\msxml3.dll on my system... if it's coming with ie5 too, could it be used for the connections... as msxml has the server side and using it for kixtart-socket framework shouldn't be impossible... |
btw, you could do: $hl[$].onmousemove="$$hlURL["+$+"].listindex=$$hl["+$+"].listindex $$hl["+$+"].tooltip=$$hl["+$+"].focuseditem.subitems(0).text+' '+$$hlURL["+$+"].text" or even: $hl[$].onmousemove="$$hlURL["+$+"].listindex=$$hl["+$+"].listindex $$hl["+$+"].tooltip=$$hl["+$+"].focuseditem.subitems(0).text+' '+substr($$hlURL["+$+"].text,54)" check it out... and I can take of the tooltip from the "official" version. |

ok, that crashes my speed theory... actually my tests proved partially that too... so, still not sure what is the cause. |
patrick, does the line worky? crashes? |
Will test with this post.... |
It works, going home in 1 hour, will keep the RC2 running!!! |
this is starting to look pretty good. still there is the error-20-30 but as long as it's not always, it can be allowed there. |
shawn, can the pending stuff in the event stack be cleared somehow? as now, we have timer for example 20 secs which should download every 20 secs 20k. then, once net outage occurs, one event can take 300 secs to execute, by that time there is already 15 calls to that 300 second waiting loop! and you know what can happen with that. at some point some wall is going to crash or, the network is back on and board will get 12000 requests for that 20k page! can this be avoided or are we destined to flood our dear kixtart.org down with this? |
the best thing to do (and Im just thinking out loud here) is when you enter a timer event, first thing, set the timer to zero (stop it), then do your timer event processing, then just before you exit the function, set the timer back to 20 secs. |
shawn, can I achieve the same with enable/disable? then would not need additional temp var |
Jooel, you know what, I thought disabling the timer would have worked - but it doesn't. |
so, I did: $loop.ontimer="$$loop.interval=0 update() $$loop.interval=1000*$$looptime" will see what it comes to. |
patrick, I quess you are back at work. is it still running? |
Yep, I'm back... Found my PC locked (was expected as I did this...). The unexpected thing was a popup box that I ran out of Virtual Memory!!! Being unable to logon I had to use the power switch. Didn't find anything unusual in the eventlogs. Started the checker today at 7:52 "Middelburg"-time. Will see how long it runs now... |
pat, if you check the change I specified above you should see what may have caused your crash. yesterday at least to here the kixtartBB was offline several times. this meaning that rc2 would create new jobs every 60 seconds and finally crashing the system. could make some memory control there too... anyway, been running now for 16 hours with 9M memory consumption... slider enabled and nothing unusual, no double posts or nothing. |
yep, everything works smoothly what comes to the basic checker. what comes to misc() - once again, after some time running, it does not draw anymore. I can see the board trough it so, I think I'll do something with it too anyway, if that runs smoothly, will finally get to final. |
Running now with loop timer fix.... |
is it good or better? |
No crash yet.. running from 9:13 "Middelburg"-time (2.5 hrs) |
is that middleburg-time the same as CET? |
Jooel, middelburg-time = www.kixtart.org-time running for 3.5 hrs now |
no props found. running rc-2 here and at home "final" found what was wrong with that misc. it had doevents(1) and sleep 0.02 seems that it hanged that at some point. it might be even related that the form wasn't dimmed so the events did flush at the end... by the way: boardtime = GMT+1 = CET |
Running since 9:13, no problems with misc!!! |
eh, so let it run until tomorrow and try again |
Will keep it running till tuesday!!! |
