Hi,

I've got a script to generate a new outlook profile for Outlook 97 (use the newprof.exe tool) and for Outlook 2000 (use the modprof.exe tool.) It doesn't matter on which OS I'm working the both work.
Now there is Office XP. Does anybody know if there is a profile generation tool for Office XP because newprof and modprof generate an error.

Thanx
AukeB

Auke,

It looks like there is a whole paradigm shift on this...

There are two different options for this:
Chapter 6 - Deploying On Windows 2000
Which uses the GPO (Group Policy Editor).

Chapter 7 - Deploying On Windows NT 4.0
Which uses the /jm switch for the Setup program..

HTH,

- Kent

jvynx,

Welcome to the board!

In the FAQ Section, I talk about the Office XP Setup for Outlook at - Exchange/Oulook Configuration.

Specifically..

; -- You should be able to issue the following command line: outlook.exe /importprf \\server1\share\outlook.prf
; -- Ref. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/defa ult.asp?url=/TechNet/prodtechnol/office/officexp/reskit/officexp/part5/c18dpou.asp

HTH,

Kent

Kyder,

Your solution worked the first time. Thank you. Is there a method of preventing Outlook from opening during the profile creation; i.e. quiet mode?

jvynx,

Have a look at - http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/TechNet/prodtechnol/office/officexp/reskit/officexp/part2/c05incu.asp

Look at the link for - Customizing How Setup Runs

/s does seem to be valid argument.
still, it opens the window.

if you want to import profile without starting outlook, you probably should check on newprof:
quote:
SUMMARY
The Newprof.exe file is the Automatic Profile Generator Program. This article describes the command line options that this program recognizes.

MORE INFORMATION
Newprof.exe requires a profile settings file (.PRF file) that contains the information about the profile to be generated. By default, if Newprof.exe is not supplied any parameters, it will look for the file Default.prf in the Windows directory.

Newprof.exe accepts the following command line options:

NEWPROF [-P ] [-S] [-X] [-Z]

Where:

-P is the .PRF file with the complete path.

-S Causes the Newprof.exe to program to bring up a window, allows the user to choose a .PRF file, and displays status and error messages in this window.

-X Causes Newprof.exe to start execution automatically when the -S option is used, without waiting for a .PRF file to be selected. Requires the -P option to be used or the Default.prf file to be present in the windows directory.

-Z Causes Newprof.exe to display MAPI error codes in case any errors are encountered. This option requires the -S option.

Newprof.exe does not generate any log files.

Keywords : kbusage
Issue type :
Technology : kbExchangeSearch kbExchange500 kbExchange400 kbExchangeClientSearch kbZNotKeyword kbZNotKeyword2 kbZNotKeyword3 kbExchange400NT kbExchange500NT

I use it in logon script and it works a charm.

cheers,

I have tried to use newprof.exe but it generates error message about memory. What version of newprof.exe are you using? Where can I get the file? The command that I sued to run with newprof.exe is

NewProf.exe -P outlook.prf

Hope to hear from you.
