Hi Korgers sup?
I have an Nt 4.0 in wich I need to copy all the data in it (folders, files, shares and persmissions) to a mounted disk.

The ideal would be to ghost the disk but the thing is I am doing it cause it is impossible for me to run CHKDSK. I get an error wich indicates me that the disk had a different OS and the error ends up with no aparent solution.

Conclusion I need to format the disk in new format and copy all the data to it with the Nt OS, then CHKDSK.

By now I have seen Robocopy can help me (thanks Jooel) the same as SCOPY but I really cannot get along with it.

Is there another tool or code I can use?

Thanks very much boys.

ROBOCOPY and SCOPY wuld be the best tools. however, why do the permissions need to be copied? Permissions can be recreated. Also, I don't hopy you're trying to copy the disk onto somewhere else in order t get that exact computer back up? My advice: Rescue the data, forget about the rest.

RoboCopy is quite easy to use, but it does not do the shares

Download latest version from here
Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools

ROBOCOPY C:\ \\MyServer\Share\OldDrive copy:dat /e /z

Will copy the entire drive to the share point on the server including all empty folders, basically a full mirror onto the server. But excluding the permissions. copyall should do the permissions and owner etc..

However here are some links to file recovery software that to my understanding they are free and not just teaser demos.

isn't that what xcopy's "/O" option is for?

/O Copies file ownership and ACL information.

Yes, however RoboCopy is miles ahead of xcopy for features and robustness.

There is also this product. Have not tried it either, but hey... here's a link.

hmmm...
only pcInspector and eData's unErase seem to be freewares...

and the unErase free functionality is limited. thus can't really even think about it.
plus it looks like media player 10. in english, awfull, too candy... iyk.
professional software should look professional, not like they were made for kids. thus this can't be professional

aftermath:
I will go and download pcInspector while I listen to "Keine Lust"

Agree with Lonkero on unErase (not sure about PC Inspector)

If you want a PRO version then you can take a look at this product. Not cheap, but I can attest to how well it works, we use it at work and it works great.

Had one system that was running Windows 98. They formatted the drive and converted it to NTFS then installed Windows 2000 on it. Ran it for a couple days, then came back and said they needed some digital images off of the system. I ran the utility on it (took a few hours) but was able to restore 185 digital images out of about 225.

Expensive, but very professional.
